Volkswagen Polo GTI Released in India at Rs 25.65 lakh
Volkswagen has finally introduced the much awaited Polo GTI hatchback at INR 25.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The 189 bhp generating attractive hatchback car is also one of the most affordable performance cars that you can buy in India today.
This is the first GTi car to be launched in India and the Polo GTi is a spruced up 3-door variant of the Volkswagen Polo.
Talking about the external features of this elegant looking small car, while the head lamps come with the same design with a possibility of DRLs being offered this time, the radiator grille in the front of the car along with the front bumper are all new. There is a mesh grille with the GTi badge attached on the left corner. The bumper comes with sharper looks this time and also gets a wide mesh grille with integrated fog lamps. While the side profile of this refreshed Polo still remains the same, the rear doors have been given a miss. The tail end of the car is also of the same design except for the twin pod tail pipes which stand out. The GTi has been built based on the Highline model of the Polo.
It also comes with height adjustable driver seat, electrically adjustable as well as folding view mirrors and cruise control. The 2-DIN music system has USB, AUX and Bluetooth integrated with it. The interiors of the car have been touched with black with a flat bottom sporty looking steering wheel with mounted audio controls. The most exciting part of the GTi Polo for the car lovers is that it gets a 1.8 litre turbocharged petrol engine generating 180bhp of output. While it gets the DSG automatic gearbox, car lovers will be glad to know that a manual transmission will also be on offer. The Polo GTi hits the top speed from standstill within seven seconds.
This car is expected to offer competition to the Abarth Punto to be the most powerful hatchback model except for the Mini Cooper S. Volkwagen India is confident that the Polo GTI 3-door model will open up a new segment in the country which aims at the driving enthusiasts. Talking about its launch as a 3-door hatchback model, Michael Mayer, Director, VW Passenger Cars India said: “We want to keep it very pure; a hot hatch that offers performance, technology and comfort. I know that there is a compromise here, but people who buy this car, which is a fairly costly car, will have other cars in their garage to load five people on a regular basis.”
