> There are four engines on offer- 1.2L and 1.4L FIRE petrol and two variants of 1.3L MultiJet diesel. The 1.2L SOHC mill develops 68PS at 6000rpm and 96Nm of torque at 2500rpm. This eight valve unit promises decent performance within city limits, but if you take into account Punto’s capable chassis and heavy frame, it is somewhat sluggish.

The 1.4L DOHC engine produces an impressive 90PS of power at 6000rpm and max torque output of 115Nm at 4500rpm. Fiat’s 1.3L MultiJet engine that is considered to be superbly successful gets two power outputs in the Punto- one with 76PS of power at 4000rpm and 197Nm of max torque at just 1750rpm and another with 93PS of power at 4000rpm and 209Nm of impressive torque at a respectable 2000rpm of engine speed.

> Fuel efficiency of 1.2L FIRE and 1.4L FIRE petrol engine stands at about 15.7kmpl and 14.6kmpl, respectively. The diesel variants, on the other hand, offer almost identical fuel economy figures of 20.3kmpl for 76PS and 20.5kmpl for 90HP variant.

> Coming to the exterior, this car sports a stunning look, with several eye-catching features such as, large clear headlamps with teardrop profile that blends perfectly with the large split grille, neat and compact front hood that slopes forward with minimal creases, the large bumper that houses fog lights within silver finished casings and imparts a curvy side profile to the nose, blackened B-pilar, 15” alloy wheels with beefy arches, large rear bumper with fat boot lid, etc.

The build quality is quite sturdy, along with superb ground clearance and marginal panel gaps.

> The cabin flaunts a classy look, thanks to the dark dual-tone interior. The centre console finished in silver creates a stunning contrast with the black theme of the textures.

The instrument panel is simple and easy to read, with large dials and multi-info display. All the controls are laid out in a logical and ergonomic manner. Both front and rear passengers can enjoy sufficient space, though the absence of split rear seat in base variant is a letdown.

You can also expect other impressive features which are offered as standard across all variants, such as, 12V power socket, follow-me-home headlamps, power steering, speed sensitive audio system and tilt steering, etc. If you go for the higher variant, you can expect boot lamp, fabric inserts on door, red stitching on seats and steering wheel, 60:40 rear seat, desmodromic foldable key, power door mirrors, leather wrapped steering and gear knob, fog lamps, keyless entry, automatic climate control, and Blue&Me connectivity with steering mounted controls.

> It is a great mile-muncher as its wide body stance offers dynamic stability at high speeds. Overall ride quality is also quite good, even on rough surfaces. Independent front suspension with McPherson struts and double acting telescopic dampers lends a more direct and agile feel to the steering system. In fact, upfront the steering system of Punto is one of the best hydraulic units in its class.

However, suspension setup is slightly firm, which is otherwise not much of an issue, considering Indian road conditions in general, but is somehow dilutes the driving pleasure.
