The All New Jaguar F-Pace 3.0d
In terms of size, the new Jaguar F-Pace is the tallest Jaguar model around. The large 19 inch wheels on this R-Sport trim account for this and you can even get 20-inchers in the top First Edition trim. The face comes with the typical Jaguar flavour, from the F-Type to the XF, and with its lowered roof line and muscular wheel arches, this car looks understated but indeed noticeable. It definitely stands out due to the fact that it is new and the large LED head lights with the J-shaped DRLs demand attention.

The cabin of the F-Pace is spacious and while it is not exactly super luxurious, it certainly feels plush. The seats are comfortable and there is ample leg space for second row passengers. Sitting at the front, you are bound to get that big-car feel but being able to see the whole bonnet really helps. The dashboard is elegant and you know that you are sitting inside a Jaguar. The R-Sport trim, which costs more than Rs 1 crore, gets a lot of features such as surround-view cameras, mood lighting, a large 10 inch touch screen and a panoramic sunroof, but these are not available in the base model of this car.
The F-Pace comes with two diesel engine options. At the lower end of the range, is a 2.0 litre, 177 bhp unit with 430 Nm of torque. Available with this R-Sport and First Edition trim is the 3.0 litre V6. It is smooth and has a decent 296 bhp. It claims a 6.2 sec from zero to 100 kmph so yes, this is a quick SUV. Power is fed to the rear wheels and the fronts get it only when required.
The steering is large and correctly weighted for an SUV – it is not too heavy, nor too soft. Acceleration is linear and cabin insulation is top class and you hardly feel or hear diesel clatter. Quick lane changes are ever so smooth and this car manages to hold its line around fast curves really well. The all wheel drive option helps. Power is fed to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. As in most Jaguars, the ‘handshake’ gear knob goes through the various gearshift positions. There is a ‘Sport’ mode, too, but most of us may have to struggle to notice the difference. Maybe that is the reason why they have made an effort to make the difference obvious by changing the dashboard display which turns bright red in ‘S’ mode.
On the move, the F-Pace manages to keep things steady. It comes with a well built and firm suspension and confidently tackles potholes in the city roads. It also gets its fair share of electronic features such as the stability control, traction control and torque vectoring by braking. With its massive 700Nm torque, the F-Pace is an agile and nimble car.
