New Hyundai i20 – Key points worth remembering

The new Hyundai i20 facelift edition got launched at this year’s Auto Expo. The new car has obviously got some refreshed styling and some features to surprise you. The Hyundai i20 features a new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment, rear AC vents and slidable armrests as the major changes.

The car would still have the same engine options as the previous model and have the same output and mileage figures. It has, however, received some features and tweaks to help it compete with its rivals.

The Exterior Modifications on the Facelift – New Hyundai i20

The new design gets a new bumper and a larger grille. The projector headlamps with the LED DRLs would blend quite nicely with the redesigned front bumpers of the newly redesigned model. The side profile gets some adjustments too. There is a new set of 16-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels. The rest remains same along with the semi-floating roof design.

Most of the visual changes have taken place towards the rear of the car. It has a restyled tail lamp cluster and a new bumper design. The number plate has been moved from the bumper and placed at the centre of the tailgate.

The Interior Restructuring and Updated Features

A new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment screen can be found in the new Hyundai i20. The unit comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The car also gets automatic climate control and air conditioning that deodorizes and purifies the cabin.

The rear AC vents and the sliding armrests are new additions that would definitely please the customers. The dual airbags and the ABS would now come as standard across all the variants of the new Hyundai i20. The top ASTA variant would get 6 airbags and the ISOFIX child seat mounts.

The car would also have a reverse parking camera, the speed sensing automatic door locks and power windows which roll down when an obstacle is detected. A new ‘Auto Link’ feature is a mobile app that would provide the owner all the vital information of the car.

This would include service assistance and maintenance information from Hyundai. The other features include the engine start/stop button and automatic headlights. The smart pedal technology would apply only the brake when both the accelerator and brake pedals are pushed together.

The new Hyundai i20 gets dual tone colour schemes. The interior would also get an optional dual colour scheme. There are auto-folding ORVMs and a cooled glovebox on the huge list of upgrades.

The Engine Upgrades

No changes were made to the Hyundai i20 in its facelift. However, there is a new CVT unit that has been paired to the 1.2-litre petrol engine to offer a power output of 83 bhp and 115 Nm of peak torque.

The 4-speed torque converter has bee replaced that used to be offered with the 1.4-litre engine. The CVT is offered in the mid and top-level trims.

The old model was quite outdated when compared to the rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno or the Volkswagen Polo. The sales figures were going down but the new generation has the capacity to make up for it.
