Make way for these upcoming SUVs in India

Audi is expanding its SUV line-up even further in 2016 with the launch of an all-new entry-level crossover. The smallest and cheapest car in the company’s Q line-up, the Q2 flaunts a fairly unique design and offers a plenty of vibrant paint colours for its young buyers to choose from, besides loads of customization options. It has a high shoulder line in tandem with a roof that slopes down towards the rear, pinching the back end. There are also several new lines and design cues placed onto it, apart from the rugged looking cladding and skid plates.

Other options include the customization of thick C pillars towards the rear, a choice of alloy wheels and a two contrasting roof. Drivers get a 7 inch infotainment screen on top of the dashboard. Talking about engines, the new Q2 will not only come with a new gearbox choice, but a more powerful 2.0 litre diesel engine with 148bhp will arrive. By the beginning of 2017, a 22.0 litre turbo with 187bhp and an S-tronic automatic gearbox will go on sale. The price range is expected to start from Rs. 25 lakhs (ex-showroom).

The Tata Land Rover SUV, expected to be launched in India by October 2018, will be priced at around Rs. 25 lakhs. A Fiat-sourced 2.0 litre Multijet-II Diesel engine will power the Q501. Likely to rival the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, this premium SUV will be based on the Land Rover Discover Sport’s L550 platform. This engine is likely to produce more than 170 bhp. Transmission options will include both Manual and Automatic units. There is also a possibility of Tata offering an AWD system on the high-end models. It is likely to come with both 5-seater and 7-seater options, to cater to automobile enthusiasts as well as family buyers.

According to speculations, the makers might offer high water wading capacity and ground clearance to tackle rugged road conditions to enhance its off-roading capabilities. Most of the structural components of the new Tata SUV are likely to be borrowed from the Discovery Sport including floor pan. However, it will differ significantly in its design elements, and will carry signature SUV attributes such as a hefty body-build and heavy body cladding.

The all-new Hyundai Carlino Compact SUV, likely to be launched by end-2017 or early-2018, will go on to rival the likes of Ford EcoSport and Maruti Vitara Brezza. It will be based on the Elite i20 platform, which means it will come with a 1.2 litre Kappa VTVT Normally aspirated petrol and a 1.4 litre U2 CRDi Turbocharged Diesel engine. Transmission options could include a 6 speed manual and a 4-speed auto units. Unlike most of Hyundai’s cars which bear a ‘fluidic design’, this car will sport an aggressive look thanks to its large front grille, chunky bumpers and scuff plates.

Hyundai Carlino Compact SUV

The sides will be characterized by huge chunky wheel arches, tall boy design, large wheels and muscular body lines. In their press release, Hyundai announced that the Carlino will offer interchangeable audio, visual and navigation units. Other convenience and safety features include a push start button, electric folding side mirrors, 6 airbags, hill start assist, etc. It will also boast of very low NVH levels, courtesy its 3D honeycomb blocks design. Priced between Rs. 7-10 lakhs, this car will offer a mileage of around 20-25 kpl.
