Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS

The Baleno has been giving tough competition to the Hyundai Elite i20 ever since it was launched back in the year 2015. The car is on sale with a 1.2 litre petrol and a 1.3 litre diesel engine which comes mated to a five speed manual transmission, while the former version is available with a CVT box as well. In order to extend this car’s appeal to wider audience, Maruti Suzuki has showcased the Baleno RS Concept car during the 2016 Auto Expo. The production ready model of the Baleno RS has been spotted several times during its test runs on city roads and the car is slated to be launched during the festive season of this year. Here are all the information that you need to know about the new Baleno RS.

Maruti Suzuki Car in India

1. All new 1.0 litre BoosterJet engine

The most talked about thing of the Baleno RS is its all new direct injection turbocharged, petrol engine with three cylinders. This all new engine will churns out 111hp of output and 170Nm of peak torque. This small 998 cc engine promises to be generous in terms of fuel efficiency as well. Globally, this motor comes mated to a five speed manual or a six speed automatic transmission, but as of now there is still no confirmation about which transmission will be made available in India.

2. Additional safety kit

Not only does the Baleno RS come with a new power engine, but it also comes equipped with disc brakes at each wheel. Apart from the Abarth Punto, this will be the only hatchback in our country to come with all wheel disc brakes. ABS and dual airbags are offered as standard from the base variant onwards.

3. Minor changes to exterior

Maruti Suzuki has eliminated the black shade option from its entire range of Baleno RS though the test car of the Baleno RS was seen to be sporting a black body. Other changes to the exteriors include a new set of alloy wheels. Maruti Suzuki might offer a body kit as an option like the one displayed on the concept car at the Auto Expo.

4. Loaded with many features

With an huge list of standard equipments, we can safely bet that the Baleno RS will be packed in with loads of features such as bi-xenon projector head lights, auto head lights and wipers, touch screen infotainment system with navigation, auto dimming IRVM, keyless entry and go, reverse camera and parking sensors, power adjustable ORVMs.

5. Price starts at a slight premium

Being a turbocharged engine with an added kit, the Baleno RS is expected to be priced at a slight premium over the 1.2 litre petrol variant. However, the price depends a lot on the levels of localisation of this engine. We hope that Maruti Suzuki will take the cue from the S-cross 1.6 litre’s price debacle and sets a reasonable price tag for this car at the start.
