Six-speed Manual Transmission to be Introduced in Honda City Petrol Variant

Different sources have confirmed that Honda has been planning to launch the upgraded version of the City sedan in our country this year, while some reports suggest that the car launch has been postponed to 2017. The cause of the delay in launch is the new generation Hyundai Verna, which is set to be launched in India in 2017. The face lifted version of the Honda City is expected to get some changes to both exterior and interior features, along with upgraded features too.

New Honda City

Japanese car maker Honda had introduced the 6 speed manual transmission with its 1.5 litre petrol engine. Now that same gearbox is about to make its way into the Honda City. The 1.5 litre i-VTEC engine from Honda has been used to power the City for more than ten years now and is appreciated; it has made the Honda City the best selling sedan from the house of Honda. The extra gear that is the sixth gear will ease the effort of the engine and as a result make the car more fuel economic.

This i-VTEC engine generates a maximum output of 120PS and a peak torque of 145Nm. In the segment, only the Hyundai Verna makes more output than the City. But the 1.6 litre Gamma petrol engine of the Verna is coupled to a 5 speed transmission like the City`s rivals – the Maruti Ciaz, Nissan Sunny, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid. In terms of monthly sales, only the Ciaz comes above the Honda City.

Honda City Facelift

This upgrade to the City is expected to make its way into the country during the festive season, to add a boost to the sales. The diesel model of the Honda City already has a standard 6 speed manual transmission and has a claimed fuel efficiency of 26 kmpl, which is among the best in its class. This 1.5 litre diesel churns out 100PS of power and 200Nm of peak torque.

The Honda City is one of the top selling sedans in India due to the excellence that it offers in terms of comfort, safety, driving pleasure, not to mention the attractive Honda City price. At present, the Honda City on road price starts with 8.93 lakh in Delhi and goes up to 13.82 lakh which makes it one of the best sedans available in the Indian auto market which also offers great value for money.
