Honda Amaze crosses 2 lakh units in sales
The compact sedan category has always been a lucrative one for Indian carmakers. The Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire became the first real star of this segment and was followed by hugely successful products from other brands including the Honda Amaze. Though the Dzire has claimed most of the sales from this segment and quite a bit of this has to do with it being a popular option in the fleet market, the Amaze has also been very successful for Honda Cars India.
In fact, the Amaze has helped the brand make a dent in a segment which it had never entered before. Most importantly, it has also made the brand more accessible to buyers who cannot afford the City but are looking for a Honda sedan with good features, ample brand value and a competitive price. The Amaze has had a decent run in the Indian market and even had a face lift a few months back. Honda Cars India is pitching the Amaze as a lifestyle vehicle and this brand positioning has helped endear the car to young buyers and urban, upwardly mobile families alike. The Honda Amaze has several USPs including quality features, lavish interiors, decent legroom and of course, a powerful and high performing engine.
The Honda Amaze has now achieved a major milestone in the Indian market and has crossed 2 lakh units in sales figures. This is a huge achievement for the brand and vindicates its belief in the car and in the compact sedan category in general. Honda Cars India has announced this major feat in a press release. The Amaze was launched in April 2013 in the country and this also marked Honda’s entry into the diesel segment in India. Amaze has achieved this extremely fulfilling sales milestone in only three years and has brought several new customers into the Honda family according to the Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Jnaneswar Sen. He added that the car has a strong value offering and is popular in both big and small cities.
The upgraded Amaze was launched in March 2016 with several new features including a variant powered by the pioneering CVT (continuously variable transmission) unit. The car is priced between INR 5.41-8.31 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Amaze has proved to be a real game changer for the company in a segment which has always seen stiff competition. The Dzire has always been the king of the segment followed by other rivals like the Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest, Ford Figo Aspire and the newly launched Volkswagen Ameo. There are several new launches slated for this segment including the Kite 5 sedan from Tata Motors and the Essentia from Chevrolet among others over the next 6-12 months as per reports.
Time will tell whether the Amaze holds onto its position in the compact sedan category and continues to rack up the sales numbers in the Indian market in the face of increasing future competition.
