The shift in the demand towards the petrol powered cars from the diesel powered variant can be partially attributed to the recent bans imposed on diesel vehicles by the Supreme Court and National Green Tribunal. The court in New Delhi also has a verdict to curb pollution levels, which was followed up by other states as well. Alongside, the lessening of the price gap between the diesel powered vehicles and the petrol powered ones have also been observed. Consequently, since the makers were prepared for this overwhelming demand of the petrol variants, the deliveries of the car have been affected. According to the company’s statement, normalcy will be restored in about a few months’ time from now, till then they’re working in full swing. Tata Tiago Launched in April 2016, this latest hatchback from Tata Motors created a wave, which was evident in the fact that it received continual demand ever since its launch. However, the waiting period for a new customer has now soared up to three months. This was primarily prompted by the sterling response it met with. This wait for certain variants may concern some, but it is noteworthy that it took Tata less than two months to produce the first 10,000 units of this contemporary hatchback. Also, it is interesting to note that the Tiago is manufactured at Tata’s Sanand facility in Gujarat and is one of the only two cars to be produced there. The other Tata car that comes out of its Sanand facility is the GenX Nano, which does not see any significant demand. Hence, it wouldn’t hurt to decrease its production. While the petrol variant develops 83 bhp along with 114 Nm of torque, the diesel churns out 67 bhp and 140 Nm of maximum torque. The petrol engine gives an ARAI certified mileage of 23.4 kmpl while the diesel manages an efficiency figure of 27.28 kmpl. Both motors get a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard. What’s more, the soon-to-come Tata Tiago AMT will be endowed with an F-Tronic system sourced from Magnetti Marelli and will be offered only with the petrol engine. In all likelihood, the long waiting period holds good for the to-end variants, which are preferred by buyers for their higher equipment list, while the base XB variant, has a much lesser waiting period, as it hardly has anything to boast of, besides an AC and power steering.
